Making AI a tool for progress

Session 21 Canal 4 - Track C July 4, 2020 08:50 - 10:00

Overview

AI is not a simple technology, in a word it is not a progress like the others, it leads us to ask essential questions about the future and the evolution of human societies. It represents a set of technologies that make it possible to conceive and propose solutions that assist, imitate or replace man in the implementation of his knowledge. It is no longer a myth, it is now a reality.

We can also say that Artificial Intelligence is the science whose goal is to make a machine do tasks that man accomplishes using his intelligence. We can also say that it is the study of activities for which no method is a priori known.

Whereas computer science is the science of information processing. AI is interested in all cases where this processing cannot be reduced to a simple, precise algorithmic method, i.e. a sequence of ordered, well-defined operations that can be executed on a computer and that allows to reach the solution in a reasonable time (minutes, hours or more but not years hours …).

AI, by allowing predictions to be made from acquired data, will transform mankind, and indeed its industrial use has already begun.
