Fabien Roussel has been a Member of Parliament for the twentieth distict of the Nord Department since 2017 and National Secretary of the FCP since November 25, 2018.
 
Born in Bethune (Pas-de-Calais) in 1969, he grew up in the Pas de Calais, in the heart of the mining area. He finished his schooling in the Paris region, in Champigny-sur-Marne, where he joined the Young Communist Movement of France (MJCF) to denounce apartheid in South Africa and demand the release of Nelson Mandela. It was also the time when he took part in major demonstrations against the Monory and Devaquet laws.
 
After training as a cameraman-journalist, he worked as a cameraman-journalist for several years. With this experience in the press, he was called to work with Michelle Demessine, Secretary of State for Tourism from 1997 to 2001. 
 
In 2001, he returned to his home region, continuing to work for Michelle Demessine. In 2007, he moved to St Amand les Eaux and became an activist in the Valenciennois, following more particularly industrial issues. He was elected in 2014 alongside Alain Bocquet as municipal councillor in charge of culture and festivities. He was elected departmental secretary of the Nord federation in 2010 and a member of the PCF National Council. In 2015, he led the PCF's Hauts-de-France list entitled "l'Humain d'abord" (Human First) to the regional elections.
 
He became the deputy for the the twentieth distict of the Nord Department in the legislative elections of 2017.
