Improving social mobility

The social contract is based on an ideal of upward mobility: for oneself in the course of life and for one’s children. In reality, on average, this upward mobility was indeed there, but the yellow vests showed the gap between an average (national) vision and the harshness of certain local situations. Now the coronavirus crisis will increase poverty and inequality. In France, our social protection system is facing up to it but ignored by some, criticized by others, it certainly needs reforms. Will social mobility give way to class struggle? During this debate, we will take stock of social mobility in France today and outline possible avenues at the local level and to reconcile the local and national levels.
