Multilateralism tested against new risks

Even though the seriousness of the current global context was widely recognized, the global health crisis has given concrete expression to and even accentuated the challenges and disruptions we were facing: climate change ; geopolitical, commercial and geostrategic tensions ; rejection of multilateralism ; democratic backsliding ; social and territorial divides ; criticism of international organizations ; transformations linked to digital technologies… However, the upheavals caused by this pandemic have also provided an opportunity to revive a certain dynamic in terms of multilateral, bilateral and international cooperation. In the face of these new and pre-existing risks, should multilateralism reinvent itself? Are we moving towards a rethinking of international organizations and their mandates? Should the rules of the game of international relations be changed?
