Is the World Moving Forward?
Overview
In many ways, the 20th century was marked by major individual and collective landmarks: religions, grand ideologies, partisanship, the division between East and West… Yet recent events have led us to recognize that these landmarks have, in part, crumbled. The state of the world, in which political, economic, and military decisions seemed driven by rationality and oriented toward a specific goal, has gradually eroded.
At the same time, however, new reference points are emerging—more discreet, certainly, but bearers of hope: moderation as a necessity, sustainability as a horizon, cooperation as a method. While they still need to be consolidated, these reference points are taking shape through experimentation, dialogue, and the search for balance between innovation and responsibility, efficiency and justice, economy and ecology. After three days of discussion, this session brings the debates to a close and reflects on the implementation of a shared aspiration: that of a world that is both more lucid and more livable, where we can find our bearings thanks to new compasses, grounded in trust and diversity.
