Understanding and Breaking the Cycle of Violence ?
Session 3
Amphi 3
July 2, 2026
15:00 - 16:00
Overview
Is violence part of our nature, or does it depend on how our societies are organized? It is not limited to armed conflicts: it can also be social, economic or symbolic. Already, John Maynard Keynes suggested that it was better for our ambitions and rivalries to be expressed in the economy rather than in the domination of others.
But does this idea still hold up today? Does capitalism reduce violence or transform it? This session aims to shed light on the different forms of violence and to understand how our institutions can either sustain them or help to escape from them.
