One World, Clashing Visions: Who Sets the Standards?
Overview
It is the exacerbation of tensions and a recomposition of the world that we are witnessing, at an accelerated speed. The period we live in is characterized by a drastic revision of the balance of power, by spectacular wars and by a competition of narratives. Are we experiencing a return of empires, in the renewed sense of powerful states and sometimes determined to expand into more or less neighboring territories ? Can Europe still hold its own against this new situation ? Should we oppose a Western universalism to different systems of value ? And what place does the war of narratives hold compared to that of weapons ?
The economic question is invited in this recomposition of the world, whether it is the race for access to resources, the level of international trade tariffs, or technological wars. So many questions and topics that will cross this session at a time of great concern about the future of the world, as international institutions weaken and some discuss their foundations and legitimacy.
