Benoît Cœuré has been President of the French Competition Authority since 2022. Previously, he was Head of the Innovation Division of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from 2019 to 2022 and Chairman of the BIS Payments and Market Infrastructure Committee. He was also a member of the Executive Board of the ECB from 2012 to 2018.

Before joining the ECB, he held various positions at the French Treasury and the French Debt Management Office. Between 2007 and 2009, he was Deputy Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development of France, Co-Chair of the Paris Club, and Financial Sub-Sherpa of the G8 and G20 for France. From 2009 to 2011, he was Deputy Director General and Chief Economist of the French Treasury.

Mr. Coeuré is a graduate of the École Polytechnique de Paris. He holds a postgraduate degree in statistics and economic policy from the École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (ENSAE), and a degree in Japanese.

He is the author of several articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration.
