What Ecosystem is right for Innovation?

Session 7

The term innovation refers to two aspects of change: process innovation (applying new production or distribution methods) and product innovation (introducing a new good or service, improving technical specifications, etc.). Innovation can also involve how companies are governed and financed as well as their methods for marketing and organising work. But no innovation can have any meaningful impact without an ecosystem that is conducive to its existence. This ecosystem is built around three pillars: research, academia and industry. It is reliant on the availability of skills and the capacity of educational institutions to adapt. In this session, we will attempt to name the main substantive factors of this ecosystem conducive to innovation and discuss who are the ecosystem’s actors (research laboratories, smart city developers, incubators, FabLabs, etc.). We will also figure out what demands a virtuous ecosystem puts on the labour community.
