Dr. Salim Chahine was appointed Third Deputy Governor of the Banque du Liban on 10 June 2020. He is also a member of the Central Council of the Bank. He supervises the following units and departments: - Statistics and Economic Research Department - Foreign Affairs Department - Training and Development Department - Financing Unit - Procurement Unit Dr. Chahine began his career 25 years ago as a financial analyst in the oil industry in Europe. He then worked as a consultant for several financial institutions in Europe, North Africa, the Gulf States and Lebanon. He has held several positions in the banking sector, including: - Economic and Financial Consultant, in charge of Portfolio Management and Private Banking, member of the Investment Committee, member of the Equity Committee at Banque BEMO Liban and Banque BEMO Europe for 17 years until 2017. Member of the Investment Committee and member of the Equity Committee at Banque BEMO Europe; - Independent member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Compliance Committee, member of the Corporate Governance Committee and invited member of the Risk Management Committee at Bankmed from September 2017 until June 2020; - Independent member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Audit Committee, Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee and member of the Remuneration Committee at Turkland Bank from March 2018 until June 2020. Academically, Dr. Chahine holds the Abdul Aziz Al Sagar Endowed Chair in Finance at the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and is the Executive Director of the Talal and Madiha Zein AUB-Innovation Park. He was Interim Dean of the Olayan School of Business-AUB between April 2013 and December 2015. He is a member of the European Institute of Corporate Governance. He was also a Visiting Professor at several universities including Johnson School Cornell University, Neely School of Business-Texas Christian University, King's College London and EADA in Spain. Dr. Chahine has developed an extensive research portfolio in Management and Finance. He has over 50 publications in top academic journals such as Review of Accounting Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Corporate Finance. His research has been presented at leading international conferences such as the National Bureau of Economic Research in the US, the American Finance Association, the European Finance Association, and the European Financial Management Association. He has received several awards, including the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation Prize for the Best Young Researcher in the Arab World in Economics, Banking, Finance and Management Sciences. He was also awarded the Medal of Excellence for Distinguished Scholar by former Prime Minister Rafik HARIRI. Dr. Chahine holds a PhD in Finance from the "Université d'Aix-Marseille" in France as well as a D.E.A. in Banking and Financial Studies from the "Université d'Aix-Marseille" and an MSc in Financial Engineering from "Kedge Business School" in Marseille. He has also completed the Executive Education Programme at Harvard Business School and obtained a Certificate in Finance and Management from New York University-Stern School of Business.
