Bio


Pierre-Olivier Costa has served as President of the Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations) since 2022. He is developing a new vision for this national museum centered on accessibility for underserved audiences, community engagement, showcasing the collections, and revitalizing the museum’s various heritage sites. After helping launch the Journal des arts in 1994, Pierre-Olivier Costa spent a significant portion of his professional career at the Réunion des musées nationaux (RMN), where he held various positions across several departments, notably in the communications division, the photo agency, and the acquisitions department. Pierre-Olivier Costa subsequently joined the Centre Pompidou between 2007 and 2011, where he served as chief of staff. He then joined the National Film Center (CNC) for eight months as an advisor to the president. After serving the government in the Media Development Directorate, he worked for the City of Paris from 2012 to 2017, serving as chief of staff to former Mayor Bertrand Delanoë (PS). There, he held the position of deputy director in charge of information and communication. As Emmanuel Macron’s chief of staff during the presidential election campaign, he became his special advisor at the Élysée Palace and Brigitte Macron’s chief of staff from 2017 to 2022.
