Bio


Paulo Correa is Executive Director for Brazil and Suriname at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Chair of the Policy and Evaluation Committee of the Board of Executive Directors. In this role, he contributes to major reforms of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), with a focus on governance, transparency, impact, and closer cooperation across the IDB Group and with other multilateral development banks. He also played an important role in supporting the IIC’s US$3.5 billion recapitalization and in the implementation of its new “originate-to-share” model.

Before joining the IDB, Paulo spent more than twenty years at the World Bank, working on structural reforms, private sector development, finance, and investment policies across Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia, and East Africa. He notably served as Lead Economist and Program Coordinator for the Southern Africa Unit.

In 2015, he served as Secretary of Economic Affairs at Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, a vice-minister-level position, where he led reforms to promote productivity, investment, infrastructure financing, insurance sector deregulation, and the restructuring of state-owned enterprises.

Paulo has also served on the boards of several public and private companies and taught economics in Brazil. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, as well as a Master’s degree in Industrial Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro
