Bio
Since his appointment in 2007 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Attijariwafa Bank Group, Mohamed EL KETTANI has led the development of the Group’s banking and financial services at both the national and regional levels, driving its growth to its current position as the leading bank in North Africa and the seventh-largest bank in Africa.
A graduate engineer from ENSTA Paris, Mohamed EL KETTANI began his banking career in 1984 when he joined Banque Commerciale du Maroc (BCM). During his tenure, he held several positions across various divisions and departments. In 2004, he led the merger between BCM and Wafabank, which resulted in the creation of the Attijariwafa Bank Group.
Under his leadership, the Attijariwafa Bank Group has successfully implemented several strategic plans that have strengthened its position as the market leader in Morocco and as a leading banking institution across the African continent.
The Group is currently present in 27 countries, including 15 in Africa. It operates the most extensive banking network in Africa, with 7,417 branches and 21,293 employees.
Mohamed EL KETTANI also serves as Vice Chairman of the Moroccan Banking Association (GPBM) and sits on the boards of several companies.
Mohamed EL KETTANI has been awarded the distinction of Officer of the Order of the Throne by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the National Order of Merit of Senegal, Commander of the National Order of Merit of Côte d’Ivoire, Commander of the National Order of Merit of Togo, Officer of the French Legion of Honour, and Grand Officer of the Gabonese Order of Merit.
He is married and the father of three children.
