Bio
Karim El Aynaoui is Executive President of the Policy Center for the New South. He is also Executive Vice President of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Dean of its School of Social Sciences, Economics, and Humanities. From 2005 to 2012, he served at the Central Bank of Morocco (Bank Al-Maghrib) as Director of Economic Studies, Statistics, and International Relations. He also established and led the Research Department and served as Special Advisor to the Governor. Previously, he worked for eight years at the World Bank as an economist covering the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa regions. He has published books and academic articles on macroeconomic issues in developing countries. He has co-authored books on the renewal of Morocco’s growth strategy and on the Moroccan labor market, and recently co-edited a book titled The Oxford Handbook of the Moroccan Economy. Karim El Aynaoui serves in scientific and advisory capacities for several institutions. He is a member of the Malabo Montpellier Panel, the Scientific Committee of the Italian Institute for International Political Studies, the Advisory Committee of the World Bank Institute for Economic Development, the Scientific Council of the Moroccan Capital Markets Authority, the International Advisory Board of the Italian Med-Or Foundation, and the Trilateral Commission. He is also an Advisor to the Chairman and CEO of the OCP Group and a member of the Board of Directors of the OCP Foundation. Karim El Aynaoui holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Bordeaux, where he taught courses in statistics and economics for three years. He is a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
