Jens-Frederik NIELSEN

  • Prime Minister, Greenland

Bio

Jens-Frederik Nielsen is the Prime Minister of Greenland and leader of the Demokraatit party. Born in 1991 in Nuuk, he became Greenland’s youngest-ever head of government after his party’s victory in the 2025 parliamentary elections. He previously served as Minister for Industry and Mineral Resources and has been chairman of Demokraatit since 2020.

A graduate in social sciences from the University of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen combines political experience with a strong focus on economic development, business growth and Greenland’s gradual path toward greater self-reliance. His leadership has been marked by a pragmatic approach to independence, emphasizing the need to strengthen Greenland’s economy and institutions before moving toward full sovereignty.

Since taking office, he has played a central role in defending Greenland’s sovereignty amid renewed international attention to the Arctic. He has called for unity, political stability and respectful partnerships with Denmark, the European Union and other international partners, while firmly rejecting external pressure over Greenland’s future.
