Bio
Jean Viard is a sociologist and Associate Research Director at the CEVIPOF-CNRS. He holds a postgraduate degree in economics from Aix-Marseille University and a PhD in sociology from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. He specialises in social time studies, including holidays and the 35-hour workweek, as well as regional planning.
Every weekend, he hosts the programme “Question de société” on France Info. Together with Marion Hennebert, he directs a book collection at Éditions de l’Aube in La Tour-d’Aigues, which he founded. Author of numerous books, he recently published Une France bousculée, released by Éditions de l’Aube in January 2026.
Jean Viard is also a member of the Scientific Council of the Youth programme "Jeunesse(s)" of the Le Cercle des économistes.
