Bio


Falk Richter is one of the leading voices in contemporary European theatre. He gained international recognition as a playwright in 1998 with God is a DJ, followed by numerous works such as Under Ice, Electronic City, Fear, and Je suis Fassbinder, which are performed worldwide.

Over the past 30 years, he has worked at major European theatres and festivals, including the Festival d’Avignon, the Théâtre de l’Odéon in Paris, Dramaten in Stockholm, the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, the Burgtheater in Vienna, and Schauspielhaus Hamburg. He was artiste associé at the Théâtre National de Strasbourg and has been closely associated with the Schaubühne Berlin since 1999. His texts have been translated into more than forty languages and are staged internationally.

Richter’s work is known for its distinctive theatrical language, bringing together text, dance, and music into powerful, immersive stage experiences. He has received numerous important awards, including Director of the Year by Theater heute (2018), the Special Teddy Award at the Berlinale (2019), and in 2024 the title of Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture.

He taught as Professor of Performing Arts in Copenhagen and continues to develop his work internationally, giving masterclasses and collaborating with artists around the world.
