Claire HEDON

  • The Defender of Rights

Bio

Born on October 5, 1962, in Paris, Claire Hédon holds a Master’s degree in Law from Paris-II University and a Master 2 in Communication from CELSA. Early on, she turned toward journalism, convinced that giving a voice to those furthest from the centers of power is an essential lever for social justice. Appointed Defender of Rights on July 22, 2020, Claire Hédon has placed equal dignity at the heart of her mandate as the foundation of the rule of law. In 2026, she published La République des droits (The Republic of Rights), a book that extends this commitment by reminding us that the legitimacy of institutions is measured by their ability to protect those furthest from them and to make rights truly accessible to everyone. Her mandate will conclude on July 21, 2026.
