Restoring the Reliability of Information

Session 47 Amphi 2 July 4, 2026 11:30 - 12:30

Overview

About 60% of the French do not trust mainstream media on current affairs. They often prefer to rely on their relatives and 50% do not trust either the "experts" (academics and scientists) interviewed by the media to shed light on information.

In a context where information sources are often polluted by fake news and rumors, and where social networks spread true and false information without hierarchy, how do professional media whose job is to verify and cross-check this information, Can they get out of the game and become actors in the debate again, in whom the French would have confidence?

Several elements are necessary for this: a viable Economica model, in a competitive world shaken by digital technology in all its forms; governance ensuring independence and freedom from conflicts of interest; properly trained journalists in digital technologiesbeyond their core business of collecting and verifying information; a transparent and mastered use of AI. These will be the paths to this success that will be discussed during this round table.
