
Dennis NOVY
Bio
Following his appointment in Spring 2025, Professor Dennis Novy started his role as Chief Economist and Director of Analysis at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) on 1 October 2025. He is on secondment from the University of Warwick, where he is a Professor in the Department of Economics.
Dennis’ research interests have focused on international trade, international finance and macroeconomics. His work analyses the behaviour of international trading firms in advanced and emerging economies, the economic impact of trade policy and exchange rate fluctuations.
Dennis previously served as Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) in 2013 to 2014. He was appointed to the UK Council of Economic Advisers at HM Treasury by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2018 to 2019. More recently, he was a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the British Chambers of Commerce from 2023 to 2025.
Dennis is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and an Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) at the London School of Economics. He was the Impact Director of the CAGE research centre at the University of Warwick from 2022 to 2025. He received a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
