Asia : Between Hypermodernity & Fragility
Overview
By 2025, Asia will be one of the regions with the highest growth rates (4.5%) and will play a leading role in global growth. It is also the world’s leading region in terms of R&D investment. Through innovation, the diffusion of new technologies, rapid urbanization, and the regionalization of value chains, Asia is shifting the center of the global economy thanks to unprecedented modernization.
This region, composed of extremely diverse countries, also suffers from vulnerabilities. These are primarily internal and stem from low living standards and significant inequality (more than 100 million people live in extreme poverty), as well as high vulnerability to climate shocks and political and sometimes military conflicts.
Internationally, the uncertainty generated by Donald Trump’s policies is heightening concerns about the conditions of international trade and raising questions about necessary alliances and strategic reorientations.
