Benoît Cœuré has been President of the Competition Authority since 2022. Previously, he was head of the Innovation Division at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from 2019 to 2022 and chairman of the BIS Payments and Market Infrastructure Committee. He was also a member of the ECB’s Executive Board from 2012 to 2018.

Before joining the ECB, he held various positions within the French Treasury and the French Debt Management Office. Between 2007 and 2009, he was Deputy Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development of France, co-chair of the Paris Club, and financial sub-sherpa of the G8 and G20 for France. From 2009 to 2011, he was deputy director general and chief economist of the French Treasury.

Mr. Cœuré is a graduate of the École Polytechnique de Paris. He holds a Master’s degree in Statistics and Economic Policy from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), and a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese.

He is the author of several articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration.
