What About Eldorados’ Future ?

Session 5

Emerging markets are the hot topic about the future of globalization. Many acronyms, BRICS, MINT, CIVETS, NEXT ELEVEN… are associated with the image of future Eldorados. In the present context of uncertainty affecting rich countries, the economic hold of these countries on their geographic area of influence tends to become more significant Thanks to their economic and demographic potential, they are challenging the old world economic order created under Western hegemony.. How far will the epicenter of the world economy move away from the West? Are the new Eldorados the promise of future growth ?

On the other hand, the economic situation of these countries remains unstable, as witnessed by the challenges having faced and still facing China. Despite their large domestic markets, significant natural resources and a competitive workforce due to low labor cost, these economies are subject to the fluctuations of the world market and depend partly on developed countries. In addition, many countries also face political instability and contestation while aspiring to democracy. These troubles raise the question as to whether these countries could have more economic prosperity without political and social reforms. How shall we combine these contrasted views of the new Eldorados? Will they finally be able to become tomorrow’s world economic leaders?
