Protecting Biodiversity
Overview
Biodiversity is the living fabric of our planet. Yet, this common heritage is being eroded at an unprecedented rate by human activities, in a quasi-generalized indifference. The mechanisms behind this collapse are now well identified; solutions, however, remain more difficult to implement.
A call to protect nature based solely on ethical or moral considerations will not be enough to mobilize. On the other hand, recognizing that biodiversity directly affects the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soils that nourish us is a more promising lever. Quantifying the consequences of the loss of ecosystem services on economic activity is therefore an essential step.
This session proposes to explore these issues, by identifying the levers for action available, at the international, territorial and individual levels, to move from awareness to action.
