Bio
Sophie Binet is the General Secretary of the CGT. Emerging from the student movement, she rose to prominence during the mobilizations against the CPE (First Employment Contract) before joining the CGT. There, she held several key positions until March 31, 2023, when she became the first woman to be elected General Secretary of the confederation. Her mandate has been shaped by the protests against the 2023 pension reform, during which she helped build and maintain an unprecedented, united inter-union coalition. Since her election, she has also championed the CGT’s demands regarding wages, industrial employment, the ecological transition, working conditions, and the fight against discrimination, while striving to strengthen the CGT’s presence and influence amid profound transformations in the world of work. On June 4, 2026, she was re-elected for a three-year term at the helm of the CGT, with the ambition to pursue her commitment to social justice, equality, and the fight against far-right ideologies.
