Rosamund DE SYBEL
- Head of Advisory Services
- International Institute for Strategic Studies
Bio
Rosamund leads IISS Advisory, the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ geopolitics and geoeconomics advisory practice serving multinational corporations, financial institutions and defence organisations. She works with senior decision-makers to frame and interpret geopolitical, geoeconomic and security developments, and to assess how these translate into policy, regulation, market access and supply-chain disruption, and their implications for investment and risk decisions.
She and her team provide integrated regional and thematic analysis, forward-looking scenarios and confidential advice close to decision points, drawing on the Institute’s analytical depth, independence and specialist expertise.
Her experience focuses on the intersection of geopolitics and global finance, with particular expertise in economic statecraft and its impact on corporate entities. Prior to rejoining the IISS in 2025, she was Head of Geopolitical Risk, Financial Crime Compliance at a unit of the world’s largest bank by assets. Earlier in her career, she was a director at a US-headquartered due-diligence and investigations firm and Editor/Economist for the Middle East and Africa at a global research firm. She was also the Editor of a Middle East focused business and economics journal and, in 2011, helped launch the geo-economics research programme at IISS–Middle East in Bahrain.
