Bio
Shayda Hessami is the Executive Director and Founder of Humanitarian Aid and Journalism (AHJ), an international organization dedicated to protecting women journalists and human rights defenders in conflict settings. A specialist in issues related to the Women, Peace and Security agenda, she has worked for over twenty years to strengthen women’s leadership and promote access to independent information in fragile environments.
She is also the initiator of the transnational movement “Voices of Women Without Borders – For Peace,” which today connects nearly 400 women journalists and activists between the Middle East and Europe.
Her work has received international recognition, including the Ischia International Journalism Award and recognition from the ANSA agency (2018), the UN Women France Resilience Award as part of the Generation Equality Forum (2021), as well as the selection of her initiative among the peace solutions showcased at the Paris Peace Forum (2023).
