Towards an Unavoidable Rise in the Cost of Energy ?

Plenary 11 July 4, 2026 10:00 - 11:00

Overview

The blockage of the Strait of Hormuz reminds us that issues of security of supply and energy prices are key to the functioning and competitiveness of our economies. From this point of view, Europe today remains very dependent on the outside world, with 70% of fossil energy largely imported into its energy mix. The share of electricity is indeed still only a quarter - and it itself depends on nearly a quarter of fossils. Beyond the current crisis, where will prices go and what to expect in the coming years? To answer this question, the aim of this conference is not to confront estimates, but to address several issues related to the energy mix and demand. What are the prospects for the energy mix and its influence on price trends? Will the transition allow a sharp decline in fossil-fuel bills without causing a surge in other components of the bill? What are the overall costs of different energies for the system? On the side of electricity demand, what can be observed about industrial demand, that related to mobility and that related to the development of AI? What about the construction of a Europe of energy on the evolution of costs and prices?
