Agnès BUZYN

Minister of Solidarities and Health - France

Agnès Buzyn was appointed Minister of Solidarities and Health on May 17, 2017.

She was Professor of Hematology at the University Pierre-and-Marie-Curie in Paris. She spent a large part of her career as an academic hematologist and clinician at the University Paris Descartes – Necker Hospital, where she took charge, from 1992 to 2011, of the adult hematology intensive care and bone marrow transplants unit. From 2002 to 2006, A. Buzyn was the Director of a research team on tumour immunology at the National Institut of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) – Institut Cochin-Paris Descartes. Agnès Buzyn’s research activities have focused on bone marrow transplants, acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). She has published numerous scientific papers and reviews in this area.

Throughout her career, A. Buzyn has served as president or board member of a number of national organizations: the Biomedicine Agency (ABM), the Blood Institute (EFS), the bone marrow transplant and cell therapy society (SFGM-TC). From 2008 to 2013, she served as Chair of the Executive Board of the Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety Institute (IRSN) and since 2009 she has been a member of the Atomic Energy Committee. A. Buzyn has then been INCa’s President from May 2011 till February 2016. She has been appointed Chairman of the French National Authority for Health (HAS – Haute Autorité de santé) by a decree of the President of France on 5 March 2016.

Agnès Buzyn received an M.D. from University Pierre-and-Marie-Curie in Paris and a Ph.D. in immunology from the University Paris Descartes.  A. Buzyn also completed her internship at Paris Hospital and served as faculty at University Paris Descartes – Necker Hospital.
