Former Vice President - the African Development Bank

Professor Mthuli NCUBE is a Professor of Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford leading the multi-disciplinary RethinkHIV project on the Economics of HIV, and sponsored by the Rush Foundation. He was Chief Economist and Vice President, African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and now leads the strategic thinking within the bank on development issues. He is now ranked as the no 1 economic thinker in Africa, and in the top 5% economic thinkers globally.

He has led policy dialogue activities with governments in Africa at ministerial level. He has developed knowledge products in “Infrastructure Investments in Africa” and developed an “Africa Infrastructure Development Index (AIDI)”, which tracks progress in development and access to infrastructure in all of Africa. He also developed the concept of “inclusive infrastructure” and developed an “Inclusive growth Index” for Africa.
