Ming-Po CAI is the Founder and President of Cathay Capital Private Equity, the leading global private equity firm created by Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs and an expert in creating value through cross-border investment across China, Europe and North America. Cathay Capital, founded by Ming-Po CAI with his business partner Edouard Moinet in 2006, is fully dedicated to helping its portfolio company management teams to succeed beyond their original borders and to accelerate cross-border growth strategies. Cathay Capital’s team of 50 – including 11 partners – is based in Shanghai, Beijing, Paris, Munich, New York and the Silicon Valley, and leverage on Cathay’s unique business model and platform to connect local ecosystems on three continents.
Under Ming-Po CAI’s leadership, Cathay Capital has grown to more than EURO 1.2 billion in assets under management and has invested in 53 companies across three continents. Cathay Capital has a range of seven funds in smallcaps, midcaps, innovation (VC fund) and the North American Sino fund.
Mr. CAI brings more than 20 years of cross-border investment experience and deep expertise developing China-entry strategies for multinational companies, and globalization strategies for Chinese companies expanding internationally. Prior to founding Cathay Capital, Mr. CAI successfully founded and managed several companies that operated in the industrial, distribution and textile sectors. Cathay Capital focuses on industries including consumer goods, health care, modern service industry, environment, agriculture and food security, as well as advanced technology.
Ming-Po CAI is an independent director of GL Events and sits on the board of several Cathay portfolio companies including Poten Environment, Meinian Health 100 and ZM Logistics. In addition, he is member of the prestigious International Advisory Board of CEIBS, sits at the Honorary Committee of Parsons The New School in Paris, and is an active member of the global business leaders organization YPO. He is also a director on the boards of two foundations – France-Chine Entreprendre Fondation, which Cathay Capital established in 2011, and the CEIBS Education Foundation.
Mr. CAI received a master’s degree in Management from EM Lyon in France, and an EMBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China.
