Bio
Dr. Nouzha Chekrouni is a Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South. She has extensive experience in academic, diplomatic, and political fields. She served as Her Majesty's Ambassador to Canada (2009–2016) and was Dean of the Council of Arab League Ambassadors in Canada (2015–2016). Dr. Chekrouni held the position of Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, in charge of the Moroccan Community Abroad (2002–2007), Member of Parliament (2002–2007), as well as Minister in charge of Women’s Issues, Family and Child Welfare, and the Integration of Persons with Disabilities (1998–2002). She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Fez, a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies (DEA), and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. Dr. Chekrouni also earned a certificate in Ethics and International Relations from Harvard University. In 2016, she was a Senior Fellow in Advanced Leadership at Harvard and taught linguistics at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Meknes. Since 2020, Dr. Chekrouni has been a member of the Arab and Moroccan Women Mediators Network for the United Nations “Women, Peace and Security” agenda.
