Bio
Benoît Cœuré has been president of the French Competition Authority since 2022. Prior to that, he was Head of the Innovation Cluster at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) from 2019 to 2022 and Chair of the BIS Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures. He also served on the ECB’s Executive Board from 2012 to 2018. Before joining the ECB, he held various positions in the French Treasury and the French Debt Management Office. Between 2007 and 2009, he served as Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Affairs, Trade and Development of France, co-chair of the Club de Paris, and financial sub-sherpa of the G8 and G20 for France. From 2009 to 2011, he was Deputy Director-General and Chief Economist of the French Treasury. Mr. Cœuré graduated from the École Polytechnique de Paris. He holds a diploma in advanced studies in statistics and economic policy from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), and a bachelor’s degree in Japanese. He is the author of several articles and books on economic policy, the international monetary system and the economics of European integration.
