Global Economic Dialogue
A dialogue between ideas to understand the global economy and deal with shocks
In recent years, with the resurgence of war in Europe, Donald Trump’s return to power and growing opposition between and within the blocs, the traditional frameworks of economic and political thought have lost their relevance. The result is an unprecedented need to understand the emerging new world and new frameworks of thought.
This is the background to the creation of the Global Economic Dialogue, a unique forum for collective reflection, bringing together think tanks from all over the world with different and sometimes contradictory views on the changes taking place in the global economy.
This innovative initiative, launched as part of Les Rencontres Economiques d’Aix-en-Provence, aims to demonstrate that dialogue is possible despite differing analyses of the major issues facing the world today: energy transition, geopolitical restructuring, the future of work, social justice, the role of the State, democratic challenges, etc.
Far from a one-size-fits-all vision, the Global Economic Dialogue promotes a fruitful confrontation of ideas. It offers a framework for discussion where the major currents of current thought, whether conservative, liberal or social-democrat, intersect… A space where disagreements illuminate as much as convergences.
Since we cannot think about the economy solely from the point of view of France or Europe, and since no single model can offer a unique response to global challenges, we wanted to give a voice to intellectual institutions from all regions of the world – the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East – engaged in a demanding and constructive dialogue.
The 34 member institutions of the Global Economic Dialogue will take part in the programme and in dedicated sessions. They will issue a joint appeal at the end of the conference.
