Made in France: Ensuring National Sovereignty

Controversy 6 Amphi 1 July 4, 2026 11:00 - 11:30

Overview

In a context of globalized trade, the location of production is once again becoming a major strategic issue for the French and European economies. France is integrated into global value chains, which creates strong interdependence with foreign countries. Recent crises have highlighted these dependencies, particularly in health, energy, and technology.

Producing within national borders is therefore presented as a way to secure supply chains, support employment, and preserve know-how. It is also seen as a lever for reindustrialization and the relocation of certain activities considered essential.

However, this approach faces several limitations: higher production costs, international competitiveness, and ongoing dependencies on certain resources or strategic technologies. It thus raises questions about the very possibility of full sovereignty in a globalized system.

So, does producing in France truly guarantee sovereignty? And how can strategic autonomy, economic efficiency, and global interdependence be reconciled?
