Yuko HARAYAMA

Executive member - Council for Science, Technology and Innovation

Dr. Yuko Harayama is an Executive Member of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cabinet Office of Japan. She is the former Deputy Director of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Innovation, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). She is a Legion D’Honneur recipient (Chevalier), and was awarded honorary doctorate from the University of Neuchâtel. Previously, she was Professor in the Department of Management Science and Technology at the Graduate School of Engineering of Tohoku University.

Dr. Yuko Harayama holds a Ph.D. in education sciences and a Ph.D. in economics, both from the University of Geneva. Prior to joining Tohoku University, she was a Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan.

The Council for Science, Technology and Innovation is one of the policy councils in the Cabinet Office. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation serves as the headquarters for the promotion of Science, Technology and Innovation; it overlooks all of the nation’s Science and Technology, formulates comprehensive and basic policies, and conducts their overall coordination.
