Beatriz NOFAL

Special G20 Advisor - Argentina

Dr. Beatriz Nofal is a prestigious leader with experience at the highest levels of government, academic and business sectors. Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University specialized in Development Economics, with Post-Graduate Diplomas from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, and the University of Paris.

Presently, she is Special G20 Advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina.  During the first semester of 2017, she held  the position of Argentina´s G20 Sherpa, Special Representative for G20 Affairs, with the rank of Secretary of State, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship. Since December 2016, she was already acting as a special advisor on G20 to Argentina´s Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra.

Previously, in government, Dr. Nofal was, since 2006 until 2010, Head of Argentina’s National Investment Development Agency, with rank of Secretary of State. She was also Member of the House of Representatives (1999-2001) and Deputy Secretary of Industry and Foreign Trade (198688), with a leading role in the negotiation of the integration programs between Argentina and Brazil and Uruguay, which constitute the founding pillars of Mercosur.

In the academic sector, Dr. Nofal has been tenure-track professor at MIT, visiting professor at Johns Hopkins and Toronto Universities and in the country in Universidad Católica and Universidad de Bologna. She was also, from October 2013 to March 2016, Professor of Economics of Innovation at the Masters Business and Technology Executive Program, at Instituto Tecnólogico de Buenos Aires (ITBA).

She has been consultant at the World Bank and Interamerican Development Bank and she was recently leading a research project for INTAL (www.iadb.org/intal) on “Technology, Employment and Productive Integration in the World Economy”. She also sits, ad honorem, on the academic consulting board of Argencon (www.argencon.org/consejo/consultivo), an institution integrated by the largest knowledge based technology and professional service companies with the objective to strengthen Argentina’s position as an international export hub. In the business sector she has been a leading economic consultant (on investment and trade), has participated on the board of international companies and was General Manager and Director of Arthur D. Little in Argentina.

She was Board Member of the International Women’s Forum (www.iwforum.org) during 2011-2013, having been President of the Argentina’s Chapter of IWF in 2008-12.

Dr. Nofal was distinguished by the French Republic with the Order of the Legion of Honor, by the Federal Republic of Brazil with the Order of Rio Branco with and by the Republic of Chile with Great Order of Merit. She has authored several publications, books and consultancy studies.
