Stéphane Richard graduated from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in 1983 and from Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 1987. After graduating from ENA, he was assigned to “Inspection Générale des Finances”, where he worked for four years (1987-1991). In 1991, he was appointed technical advisor to Mr Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade, and was in charge of the electronics and computer industries.

In 1992, he joined the “Compagnie Générale des Eaux” as Deputy CFO of the group, and in 1994 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the “Compagnie Immobilière Phénix”. In 1997, he became Chairman of CGIS (Compagnie Générale d’Immobilier et de Services), now Nexity, which included all of Vivendi’s real estate subsidiaries.

In January 2003, he was appointed Deputy CEO of “Veolia Environnement” and Chief Executive Officer of “Veolia Transport”. From May 2007 to June 2009, he was Chief of Staff to the Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment.

On September 1st 2009, he joined the France Telecom Group. He was appointed CEO of France Telecom Orange on March 1st 2010 and then Chairman and CEO on March 1st 2011

He is a member of the Board of the “Opéra National de Paris”, Knight of the “Légion d’Honneur” and Officer in the “Ordre National du Mérite”.
