  • Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (2005 to 2007)
  • Japan’s Permanent Representative to the WTO (2002 to 2005)
  • As Chairman of the General Council of the WTO Feb. 2004-2005, chaired the negotiations which resulted in the “July 2004 Package.”
  • Deputy Foreign Minister (economic);Prime Minister Koizumi’s Personal Representative (“Sherpa”) to G8 Summit in Canada(2001-2002)
  • Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2000-2001)
  • Director-General for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1997 to 2000)
