Bio


Born in Torre del Greco (Naples) on November 20th 1975 he started his political career as Florence City Councilman for the Democratic Party in 2004. Professor of Cultural Heritage Law at the University of Florence and legal advisor to the Minister of Institutional Reforms during Romano Prodi’s premiership (2006-2008), in 2008 he was selected by the U.S. State Department as young Italian politician in the International Visitor Leadership Program. In 2009 he was re-elected to the Florence City Council and appointed Vice Mayor by former Mayor Matteo Renzi. In February 2013 he was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies and became a Member of the Commission for tourism, industry and trade. In May 2014 he was elected Mayor of Florence and since January 2015 has been Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Florence and ANCI ( the national association of Italian Municipalities ) Coordinator for the metropolitan cities. In May 2019 he was re-elected Mayor of Florence. Mr. Nardella holds the following foreign institutional positions: Representative for the Europe Regional Seat of the Global xecutive Committee of ICLEI; President of Eurocities since November 2020; Since January 2022: representative of the Local governments in the European Committee of the Regions.
