Europe facing the world

Session 4 Amphi 4 July 8, 2022 14:45 - 15:45

Overview

Climate change, the terrorist threat, the migratory crisis, pandemics, the war in Ukraine: are the upheavals in the world changing Europe’s destiny? Has the paradox of a global economic force without the attributes of power come to an end? If crises have always been the driving force behind European integration, the current upheavals in the world are questioning the very nature of the European project, even in its existential dimension. They call into question both the field of values and the defence of our vital
interests and the implementation of sovereign European policies in response to the dangers of the world.

Do Europeans share a common vision of their relationship with the world and are they ready to lift the taboos that deprive their union of leadership? Under what conditions and how can Europe assert itself as a pole of peace, stability and prosperity in a world that is profoundly and permanently unbalanced and more unpredictable than ever?
