Overview
Recent and future innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic care techniques require new investment, whether in heavy medical imaging equipment, robot-assisted surgery, clinical research or artificial intelligence-based diagnostic tools. The steady decline in public investment in healthcare over the past fifteen years is now being felt strongly, and is giving way to substantial private investment. This phenomenon, sometimes referred to as the “financialization” of the healthcare sector, raises a number of questions. How can we ensure that private investment meets the population's healthcare needs? Do they ensure that all patients have access to relevant innovations?
In the specific case of artificial intelligence, the ability of these tools to rapidly synthesize an overabundance of information can be a formidable lever for efficiency: yet transforming information (symptoms, clinical or biological examinations, etc.) into a medical diagnosis is at the heart of the care process. How can we ensure that the potential power of AI is put to good use in the service of public health?
