Restoring a future to French and European agricultural production
Session 27
Amphi 3
July 5, 2025
10:00 - 11:00
Overview
European agriculture is facing many challenges: mitigating the impact of climate change, fighting biodiversity loss and land degradation, reducing the negative impact of intensive agricultural practices on health and the environment. Other challenges are coming to the forefront since the Covid-19 pandemics, Ukraine war and farmers’ revolts: providing a fair income to farmers, encouraging the generational renewal, facilitating access of all to healthy and affordable food, ensuring European sovereignty in terms of access to key inputs. Moreover, French agriculture has to compete against other large European producer countries.
Our session will present the choices that our agricultures are facing now: what amount of budget for the Common Agricultural Policy? What kind of agriculture is consistent with farmers’ wishes, consumers’ preferences and technical feasibility? What is agriculture’s contribution to the common imperative of ecological transition? How to provide a sufficient income to farmers, while the concentration in the input and output markets is rapidly increasing?
