17:45 - 18:45
Overview
The war in Ukraine has once again revealed the energy vulnerability of many countries, placing energy supply at the heart of global geopolitical issues. Dependence on imports of oil, gas, critical materials for low-carbon technologies, etc., as well as the concentration of resources in certain regions, expose nations to market volatility and international tensions. In this context, guaranteeing energy security without slowing down the ecological transition is a major challenge. Diversifying sources of supply, investing in renewable energies and developing storage are promising avenues, but they require massive investment and time. Governments need to strike a balance between energy sovereignty and global interdependence, in particular by focusing on relocating production and forging strategic alliances. While total self-sufficiency may seem illusory, greater autonomy is possible thanks to renewable energies, energy efficiency and appropriate energy policies. This session will discuss all these key issues, which are at the heart of today's world.
