Session 11- Ending Poverty
Amphi 3
July 4, 2025
11:00 - 12:00
Overview
After decades of progress in reducing poverty in developing countries, it has once again worsened in many countries due to the pandemic, inflation, conflicts and disasters, especially those related to global warming. In developed countries, inequality poses a considerable economic and political challenge.
This round table has three objectives. The first is to take stock of what is known about poverty reduction, both in terms of the effectiveness of development aid and national policies for reducing poverty, but also in terms of defining and measuring poverty. The second is to discuss public policies that reconcile the necessary ecological transition and the advent of artificial intelligence and the digital economy with poverty reduction and social justice, while it is easy to show the risks of widening inequalities that these challenges entail. Finally, the third objective is to ask how the deterioration of international policy affects the orientation, the relevance and organization of development assistance and efforts undertaken by existing multilateral institutions to reduce poverty, and the directions in which they should be directed.
