Understanding Territorial Divisions

Session 10 Amphi 2 July 4, 2025 11:00 - 12:00

Overview

The territories face a number of challenges, more or less marked, given their history, geographical situation and development strategies: medical desertification and access to care, dysfunctions of public services, demographic ageing, economic and social inequalities, isolation of rural populations, pockets of poverty in cities, skills deficits, ecological and digital transitions... In the interests of equity and efficiency, the fight against territorial and social fractures should be a priority issue, and it is public policies and their feelings that should be questioned and reoriented in some cases. How can economic development be reconciled with the reduction of territorial inequalities? What has been achieved in terms of decentralization policies? How to improve cooperation between the different local actors (companies, elected representatives, trade unions, associations...). What strategies to revitalize the territories in crisis and promote a better integration of less developed regions? Telework, tourism, retirement, ecological transition, reindustrialization, skills upgrading: levers to reduce territorial fractures? What is the link between populist voting and territorial inequalities?
